We collect information that personally identifies you, such as your name, username, e-mail, and other personally identifiable information, when you sign up for the Site or Services ("Personal Information"). Usage Data and Site Activity

We may collect information regarding the actions you take on the Site and Services ("Usage Data"). For example, each time you use the Site we may collect the type of Web browser you use, your operating system, your Internet Service Provider, your IP address, the pages you view, and the time and duration of your visits to the Site. This anonymous usage information may be associated with your username, but we will not disclose the associated information to third parties. 5.  Services Providers

From time to time, we may establish a business relationship with other businesses whom we believe trustworthy and who have confirmed that their privacy practices are consistent with ours ("Service Providers"). For example, we may contract with Service Providers to provide certain services, such as hosting and maintenance, data storage and management, and marketing and promotions. We only provide our Service Providers with the information necessary for them to perform these services on our behalf. Each Service Provider must agree to use reasonable security procedures and practices, appropriate to the nature of the information involved, in order to protect your Personal Information from unauthorized access, use or disclosure. Service Providers are prohibited from using Personal Information other than as specified by English Learners Achieving Now.

6.  Advertising

We may work with third-party advertisers, search providers, and ad networks ("Advertisers").  These companies may collect and use information about your use of the Site or Services in order to provide advertisements about goods and services that may be of interest to you.  Advertisements may be shown via the Site, the Services, or third-party websites and online services. These companies may place or recognize a unique cookie on your computer or use other technologies such as Web beacons. Our Privacy Policy does not cover any use of information that any Advertisers may collect from you. 7.  Other Transfers

We may share Personal Information and Usage Data with businesses controlling, controlled by, or under common control with English Learners Achieving Now. You will have the opportunity to opt out of any such transfer if, in our discretion, the new entity plans to handle your information in a way that differs materially from this Privacy Policy.

8.  Compliance with Laws and Law Enforcement

English Learners Achieving Now cooperates with government and law enforcement officials and private parties to enforce and comply with the law. We may disclose Personal Information and any other information about you to government or law enforcement officials or private parties if, in our discretion, we believe it is necessary or appropriate in order to respond to legal requests (including court orders and subpoenas), to protect the safety, property or rights of English Learners Achieving Now or of any third party, to prevent or stop any illegal, unethical, or legally actionable activity, or to comply with the law.

9.  Be Careful When You Share Information with Others

Please be aware that whenever you share information on your profile page or via comments, discussion broads, or any other public forum on the Site or Services, that information may be accessed by others. In addition, please remember that when you share information in any other communications with third parties that information may be passed along or made public by others. This means that anyone with access to such information can potentially use it for any purpose, including sending unsolicited communications.

We maintain physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards to protect the confidentiality and security of Personal Information and other information transmitted to us. However, no data transmission over the Internet or other network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, while we strive to protect information transmitted on or through the Site or Services, we cannot and do not guarantee the security of any information you transmit on or through the Site or Services, and you do so at your own risk.

Our Site and Services may contain links or integrate with other websites and online services, or allow others to share or send you such links. English Learners Achieving Now is not responsible or liable for any damage or loss related to your use of any third-party website or online service. You should always read the terms and conditions and privacy policy of a third-party website or online service before using it, whether directly or in connection with your use of the Site or Services.

12.  Children's Privacy

We do not knowingly collect Personal Information from children under the age of 13. If we become aware that we have inadvertently received Personal Information from a child under the age of 13, we will delete such information from our records.

13.  Processing in the United States 

Please be aware that your Personal Information and communications may be transferred to and maintained on servers or databases located outside your state, province, or country. If you are located outside of the United States, please be advised that we process and store all information in the United States. The laws in the United States may not be as protective of your privacy as those in your location. By using our Site or Services, you agree that the collection, use, transfer, and disclosure of your Personal Information and communications will be governed by the applicable laws in the United States.

14. Privacy Policy Changes

From time to time, we may change this Privacy Policy. If we change this Privacy Policy, we will give you notice by posting the revised Privacy Policy on the Site. Those changes will go into effect on the Revision Date shown in the revised Privacy Policy. By continuing to use the Site or Services, you consent to the revised Privacy Policy.

Susana Dutro, Board Member

Susana is the co–founder and CEO of E.L. Achieve. Building on an extensive background serving second language learners as a bilingual teacher, district and county office administrator, professional developer, and adjunct education faculty, Susana developed a research-based framework, E.L. Achieve’s Approach to English Learner Instruction (formerly A Focused Approach). She is the principal author of a dozen handbooks based on the approach, which has been adopted by over 100 districts nationwide.

Susana speaks and consults widely, and is most gratified when working side by side with teachers and administrators to design and help implement effective instruction for English learners. Her book chapters include “Rethinking English Language Instruction: An Architectural Approach” (English Learners: Reaching the Highest Level of English Literacy, IRA, 2003), “Explicit Language Instruction: A Key to Academic Success for English Learners” (Literacy Development with English Learners, Guilford Press, 2nd ed., 2016), and “English Language Development: Issues and Implementation at Grades Six through Twelve” (Ch. 3, Improving Education for English Learners: Research-Based Approaches, California Department of Education, 2010).  


michelleCarrol Moran, Board Member

Carrol Moran has worked in education spanning pre-school through graduate school. Her professional career in education has focused on low income students of diverse language backgrounds. She received her B.A. from UCSC, her Masters Degree in Bilingual Education from San Jose State and her Doctorate in Education: Language Literacy and Culture from Stanford University. Carrol has published over 20 articles and books in education including a chapter on Bilingual Education: Broadening Research Perspectives published in The Handbook of Research on Multicultural Education; A Balanced Approach to Literacy: A resource document for faculty in teacher education programs to introduce teachers to K-3 Literacy, published by Toucan Press; and the popular Keys to the Classroom: A teacher’s guide to the first month of School published by Corwin Press is in its third edition. Carrol was the Executive Director of the Monterey Bay Education Consortium and the Executive Director of the UC Santa Cruz Educational Partnership Center. She has been working as a private consultant in education for the past five years.




Michelle Thelander, Board Member

Michelle is co–founder and CFO of E.L. Achieve. She began her teaching career at an elementary school English immersion program in Madrid, Spain. Upon returning to California, she worked with K-12 students and adults in acquiring English as a Second Language. Her professional experience includes positions as a K-12 and adult school teacher, university adjunct faculty, technology specialist, site and district administrator, and Director of Curriculum & Instruction followed by Director II of Migrant Education Region XVI at the Monterey County Office of Education and Program Manager for Migrant Education Region IX (San Diego and Orange Counties). Michelle holds a master’s degree in educational administration. Her thesis research project culminated in the development of a Technological Literacy Assessment Rubric. The research focus of her doctoral dissertation for Organizational Leadership – “Teacher Quality and Support at High Performing, High Poverty Schools in California” – reflects her special interest in supporting teachers and promoting effective learning for English language learners and students living in poverty. 


Implementation Team


aideAidé Vásquez Yepez

Aidé is an Associate for Elementary Initiatives for E.L. Achieve. Aidé is responsible for providing elementary Systematic ELD and Constructing Meaning professional development and ongoing implementation support services for partner districts. Additionally, she works with the content development team to create instructional materials and resources for elementary classrooms. Prior to working with E.L. Achieve, Aidé was an ELD coordinator and classroom teacher. She graduated from Whittier College with a master’s degree in education and from UCLA with a degree in Chicana/o studies. 


nataschaNatascha Bruckner

Natascha edits E.L. Achieve publications and materials, including curriculum guides, educational tools, articles, blog posts, and newsletters. She works with program directors and team associates to develop content and produce publications. Natascha holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing from Naropa University. As a professional writer and editor, she has provided copywriting and editing services for a private high school, a university, a women’s shelter, and several newspapers. In addition to working with E.L. Achieve, Natascha serves as the managing editor of the Mindfulness Bell, a 48-page magazine on the art of mindful living.




English Learners Achieving Now (ELAN) microgrants increase English learners’ equitable access to experiences beyond the core academics of school. We envision an educational world where every student has access to the tools and opportunities they need for learning and for cultivating their own success.


 Our primary focus is to provide microgrants to help ensure equitable access for K–12 English learners to participate in a wide range of experiences, including extracurricular activities beyond the school day. We specifically target populations that have difficulty accessing resources due to economic or regional obstacles.
