7 Ways to Get Funding and Grants for Technology in Your Classroom

A list of ways for teachers to "get gadgets into your classroom without actually taking money out of your own pocket."

Computers for Learning

The CFL program evolved as a guide for implementing Executive Order 12999, Educational Technology: Ensuring Opportunity for all Children in the Next Century. The executive order encourages agencies, to the extent permitted by law, to transfer computers and related peripheral equipment excess to their needs directly to schools and some educational nonprofit organizations.

Donors Choose

Teachers can connect to a thriving community of donors that is eager to fund classroom projects.

National Cristina Foundation

National Cristina Foundation (NCF) accepts applications from qualified organizations that are either a 501c3 not-for-profit, school, or government agency. These organizations must be engaged in the education, rehabilitation, or training of people with disabilities, at-risk students, or economically disadvantaged persons. Schools that partner with NCF have access to resources including low-cost and no-cost Microsoft licensed products.

English Learners Achieving Now Team

The mission of English Learners Achieving Now is to enrich the quality of services provided to English language learners through research, enrichment scholarships, and family engagement.

  • Conduct research about effective English learner program design and implementation to increase understanding in the field

  • Provide enrichment scholarships to help ensure equitable access for English learners to participate in a wide range of experiences, including those outside of the classroom

  • Develop parent outreach and support that is responsive to expressed needs of the English learner community

ELAN typically offers two grant rounds each year – one in the spring, and one in the fall.  Our grant cycles have been paused due to uncertain circumstances related to the pandemic.  Please check our website in early 2021 for an update on grant application deadlines.

English learners thrive when they have the chance to participate in enrichment activities that spark their interests beyond academics.

English Learners Achieving Now (ELAN) provides microgrants for K-12 English learners to participate in a wide range of experiences, including extracurricular activities beyond the school day. These microgrants are for students whose home language is other than English.

To apply for an ELAN microgrant, the student must have a sponsoring teacher. ELAN grants are best used when the teacher understands their students' needs and interests. Each teacher may sponsor up to 3 students per application round. The teacher provides their contact information, may help the student fill out the application form, and helps us communicate with the student to fulfill their request.

Students – with a sponsoring teacher – are invited to submit an application for an individual microgrant by the deadline. Applications must be submitted online.

Following are a few examples of what ELAN grants could support. The possibilities are as limitless as students' dreams.

  • Registration fees, materials, and/or equipment for extracurricular after-school or summer enrichment programs offered through museums, colleges, community organizations, etc.:
    • Sports, gymnastics, yoga, martial arts, etc.
    • Art, photography, music, dance, etc. – Example: Everybody Dance (see videos)
    • Geology, history, astronomy, etc. – Example: NASA Robotics
    • Outdoor exploration, gardening, etc. – Example: Outdoor Reach
  • Books for students to build their home libraries
  • Memberships for museums, aquariums, clubs, etc.

English learners in grades K-12 are eligible for grant funding. Microgrants are up to $250, subject to availability of funds. We want our limited funds to support as many students as possible, so we ask that you request only the amount you need. For example, if you want to take a dance class, please only apply for funding to cover the cost of the class and any special equipment you’ll need for it.

English Learners Achieving Now (ELAN) microgrants increase English learners’ equitable access to experiences beyond the core academics of school. We envision an educational world where every student has access to the tools and opportunities they need for learning and for cultivating their own success.

Our primary focus is to provide microgrants to help ensure equitable access for K–12 English learners to participate in a wide range of experiences, including extracurricular activities beyond the school day. We specifically target populations that have difficulty accessing resources due to economic or regional obstacles.

English Learners Achieving Now (ELAN) does not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, color, sex, religion, age,
