ELAN typically offers two grant rounds each year – one in the spring, and one in the fall. Our grant cycles have been paused due to uncertain circumstances related to the pandemic. Please check our website in early 2021 for an update on grant application deadlines.
English learners thrive when they have the chance to participate in enrichment activities that spark their interests beyond academics.
English Learners Achieving Now (ELAN) provides microgrants for K-12 English learners to participate in a wide range of experiences, including extracurricular activities beyond the school day. These microgrants are for students whose home language is other than English.
To apply for an ELAN microgrant, the student must have a sponsoring teacher. ELAN grants are best used when the teacher understands their students' needs and interests. Each teacher may sponsor up to 3 students per application round. The teacher provides their contact information, may help the student fill out the application form, and helps us communicate with the student to fulfill their request.
Students – with a sponsoring teacher – are invited to submit an application for an individual microgrant by the deadline. Applications must be submitted online.
Following are a few examples of what ELAN grants could support. The possibilities are as limitless as students' dreams.
- Registration fees, materials, and/or equipment for extracurricular after-school or summer enrichment programs offered through museums, colleges, community organizations, etc.:
- Sports, gymnastics, yoga, martial arts, etc.
- Art, photography, music, dance, etc. – Example: Everybody Dance (see videos)
- Geology, history, astronomy, etc. – Example: NASA Robotics
- Outdoor exploration, gardening, etc. – Example: Outdoor Reach
- Books for students to build their home libraries
- Memberships for museums, aquariums, clubs, etc.
